All engines need a mp;4redstone signalmp;r (lever, torch, dust) – each its own: engines and machines don't pass redstone on. They only output power at their mp;2piston sidemp;r. The trunk shows the heat: mp;1bluemp;r → mp;2greenmp;r → yellow → mp;4redmp;r → black (overheated).
If the buffer fills up because nothing takes the power, the engine heats up!
Redstone Engine: 0.05 MJ/t, never overheats. It powers mp;4onlymp;r
wooden pipes, emerald/obsidian pipes, wooden fluid pipes and the
Pump – it is too weak for machines.
Stirling Engine: up to 1 MJ/t from coal, wood, lava (furnace burn time). Cold it gives less and only reaches full power when warm (~100 °C).
Without a consumer it overheats after about a minute and stops: mp;2right-click with an empty handmp;r or a
Wrench resets it.
When placed, an engine turns towards its consumer by itself. The
Wrench (or sneaking + empty hand) turns it further. Engines power any LoraTech machine, even from other mods – over distance with
kinesis pipes.
If an engine stands still, a right-click tells you why.
mp;2Engine chain:mp;r up to 3 Stirling or 5 combustion engines in a row, all with the piston side facing the same way – the front one outputs the power of all.
