You can spot oil from far away: mp;0tall black spoutsmp;r with oil running down and mp;0shiny black lakesmp;r around them. Most common in mp;2desert, badlands, taiga and oceanmp;r. Small oil lakes only appear in desert, badlands and taiga.
Below every spout there is a deep oil bubble holding hundreds to thousands of buckets.
Oil is a mp;0real, thick liquidmp;r: it flows ten times slower than water (but just as far), never forms new sources, and if you fall in you move slowly and can barely see. An empty bucket scoops an
Oil Bucket from an oil source, the oil bucket pours it out again. mp;8Oil and water don't mixmp;r – water can't be poured into oil. You can pour a
Fuel Bucket too (yellow, flows like water).
A
Mining Well stops when it hits an oil bubble – a way to find hidden oil.
Place the
Pump above the lake or on the spout and attach an engine (a redstone engine is enough). The tube lowers, then it pumps mp;2the top layer first, the farthest blocks firstmp;r – the spout shrinks from the top. It moves 1 bucket per 8 ticks (twice as fast as original BuildCraft, 10 MJ per bucket).
10 MJ per bucket, 1 block = 1 bucket. Redstone right at the pump (lever, dust, torch on it) = off – a lever on the engine doesn't affect it.
The pump outputs into adjacent
tanks and fluid pipes. A tank holds 16 buckets; stacked tanks act like one big tank.
It also pumps water: from 9 connected sources on, the water stays (infinite). Big deposits have an lt_bc:oel_quelle on bedrock that slowly refills oil (about 1 bucket per 40 minutes).
The counterpart of the pump is the
Flood Gate: it releases water, lava or oil from its tank back into the world – below and sideways, never higher, lowest layer first. Store oil in a pit or move a lake. Redstone signal = closed.
