The
ME Drive holds 10 cells. Cells 1k–256k have bytes and at most 63 types: each type costs bytes upfront, 8 items = 1 byte.
1k = 8,128 items of one kind, 4k = 32,512, 16k = 130,048, 64k = 520,192, 256k = 2,080,768.

ME Item Cell Housing +
storage component. The contents live in the item: take it out, carry it, insert it elsewhere.
Drive LEDs: green = empty, blue = has contents, orange = types full, red = full, dark = no power/channel. The
ME Chest holds one cell with its own terminal.
Keeping storage tidy: drives and ME chests have a priority (buttons in the GUI). New items go to the highest priority first, extraction starts at the lowest.
The
Cell Workbench partitions cells: only the listed kinds (up to 45) may enter. A partitioned cell is preferred at equal priority.
Cards in the cell workbench:
Fuzzy Card (ignore damage/data),
Inverter Card (partition = blacklist),
Equal Distribution Card (equal space per kind),
Overflow Destruction Card (overflow is deleted – ideal behind farms).
Typical: bulk storage = 256k cell partitioned to cobblestone/iron, high priority; everything else = 16k cells, priority 0.
Portable cell (
1k Portable Item Cell … 256k): an ME chest to carry – half the bytes, its own battery (charge it in the
Charger). Right-click opens its terminal. Without opening: in your inventory, right-click an item onto the cell (or the cell onto an item) = insert.
Take empty cells apart with sneak + right-click (cards come back too) – that is how you swap in a bigger component.
