How a round works

  1. Waiting room

A thirty-second countdown. You vote for the map and can redeem a pass.

  2. Grace period

Thirty seconds without roles — grab weapons from the chests now.

  3. Roles

Everyone learns their role. Six minutes run, every death adds 20 seconds.

  4. End

As soon as one side has won, everyone sees the roles.

The roles

RoleGoalSpecial
Innocenteliminate all traitors or survive to the endknows nothing about the others
Detectivelead the innocentsvisible in blue to all, own shop — about 1 in 8, from 6 players
Traitoreliminate all innocents and detectivessees fellow traitors in red, own chat (/t) and shop — about 1 in 4

Tips for your first rounds

  1. Think first, then strike.

A dead innocent costs you karma and only helps the traitors.

  2. Go to the tester.

    Whoever refuses looks suspicious.

  3. Inspect bodies.

The role of the dead tells you who was where.

Every rule in detail

The complete guide — every number exactly as set on our servers.

At a glance
  • Goal: as an Innocent or Detective, find and eliminate all Traitors – as a Traitor, everyone else.
  • Players: 4 or more per game.
  • Length: 6 minutes plus 20 seconds for every death, 10 minutes at most.
  • Maps: Villa Rosenhain, Forschungsstation Polaris (a research station) and MS Lorelei (a ship) – everyone votes in the waiting room.
  • How to join: in the lobby via the navigator or with /play → TTT.

Traitorabout 1 in 4eliminate all Innocents and Detectivessees the other Traitors in red, own chat (/t), own shop
  • The Traitors win when no Innocent and no Detective is left alive.
  • The Innocents win when all Traitors are dead – or when time runs out.
How a game works
  • Waiting room: the countdown takes 30 seconds. Here you vote for the map (until 10 seconds before the start) and can redeem a pass.
  • Grace period (30 seconds): everyone is on the map, but nobody has a role yet. Grab weapons from the chests now.
  • Roles: after the grace period everyone learns their role. Now the clock runs: 6 minutes, every death adds 20 seconds, 10 minutes at most.
  • The end: as soon as one side wins, everyone sees all roles.
Names, bodies and evidence
  • To the living, all names are white – except the Detective (blue). Traitors see their fellow Traitors in red.
  • Whoever dies leaves a body with their skin. Whether someone is dead and which role they had is only revealed when somebody inspects the body (click it). Then the role appears in chat, the name above the body, and they are crossed out in the tab list.
  • For the first 10 seconds after a death only a Detective can inspect the body.
  • Whoever inspects a body first gets 1 shop point plus half of the points the dead player never spent.
  • Dead spectators see every role – of course they must not tell the living.
The chests

There are chests on the map. One click gives you one item, then the chest is gone. What you get depends on what you already have: with a sword you are more likely to get a bow or arrows. The rare ender chest always gives an iron sword.

The traitor tester

Every map has a testing room. Step in alone and press the button: the door closes, after 3 seconds the lamps turn green (Innocent or Detective) or red (Traitor) and stay that way for 4 seconds. After that the tester needs a 5-second break. Only those who are watching see the result.

Careful: there is a traitor trap under the tester, and a Traitor with a tester disguise shows up green 75 % of the time.

Traitor traps and doors

The maps have buttons that only do something for Traitors – traps and traitor doors. If an Innocent presses one, you only hear a click. Whoever dies because a Traitor sprang a trap counts as that Traitor's kill. And whoever sees someone press a trap button knows enough.

Points and shops

Traitors and Detectives have points for their shop (/shop). Both start with 2 points.

Karma

Everyone starts with 1,000 karma. Karma decides how much damage you deal and how often you become Traitor or Detective.

Who kills whomKarma
Innocent → Traitor+20
Innocent → Innocent−20
Innocent → Detective−50
Detective → Traitor+20
Detective → Innocent−20
Detective → Detective−50
Traitor → Innocent+10
Traitor → Detective+10
Traitor → Traitor−30

Plus: win +20, every game played +5, leaving a game −15, damage to your own side −2 per heart (at most −60 per game).

  • Damage: with 1,000 karma you deal full damage, with 250 only half, at worst a fifth.
  • Roles: below 400 karma you never become a Traitor, Detective only from 600. The more karma you have, the more often you get these roles.
  • /karma shows your karma and your passes.
Passes

With a pass you request a role for the next game – in the waiting room via the pass menu, with /traitor or /detective. The pass is only used up when you actually get the role; if more players want the role than there are slots, a draw decides and you keep your pass. For every 500 points of your karma high score you get one Traitor pass and one Detective pass. If you play in a party, you are less likely to be a Traitor together with your friend.

Tips
  • Think before you strike: a dead Innocent costs you karma and only helps the Traitors.
  • Use the tester – whoever refuses looks suspicious.
  • Inspect bodies and read the chat: the roles of the dead tell you who was where.
  • As a Traitor: never in front of witnesses. Acid makes bodies disappear, the knife is silent.
  • As a Detective: the DNA scanner on a fresh body leads you straight to the killer.
  • Don't stay alone – but not with someone you don't trust either.
