Hand tools stay in the grid while crafting and wear down. Shift-click crafts as much as possible.

Forge Hammer: ingot → plate (160 uses)

Wire Cutter: plate → 2 wire (120 cuts)

Mortar: ingot or gem → dust (100 uses). This lets you mix alloys without machines.
